| Description | The search for an ideal antimicrobial agent has been studied in several health areas. Chlorhexidine has been widely used in the post-surgical period and is currently considered the gold standard. The search for new agents has highlighted hyaluronic acid in several areas of medicine, and good results have already been obtained in dentistry, particularly in the area of periodontology. The aim of this research was to do a comparative evaluation of the single intra-alveolar application of hyaluronic acid gel 0.2% vs. chlorhexidine gel 0.2%, in the postoperative period of mandibular molar extractions. Within the limitations of this study, particularly the size of the sample, it was verified that hyaluronic acid seems to present more favorable results concerning extra-oral edema.
