| Description | This chapter focuses on critical pedagogy in music education and recounts a research study carried out to shed light on the dialogical processes and interaction taking place among students' musical discourses during group composition processes. The theoretical framework was developed on the basis of Paulo Freire's concept of problem-posing education. The study consisted of participant observation in a group of Youth and Adult Education (YAE) learners in a school located in Florianópolis, a city in the southern region of Brazil. The methodological design included: planning, development and audiovisual recording of musical composition experiences performed by students; semi-structured interviews; and video-recorded interviews with the learners in focus groups. The results point to the recognition of otherness in the musical composition and group discussion processes, and to the interaction between musical discourses in the construction of dialogical relations.
