Description	Nursing programmes must prepare graduates who can effectively engage in the delivery of high-quality healthcare within a complex context. Across the world, there is variation in the models used to ensure the quality and effectiveness of preparing student nurses for their role as a fully qualified professional. This chapter focuses on exploring the opportunities, challenges and considerations in engaging service users in the 'taught' or HEI based elements of undergraduate, pre-registration nurse training. The UK is used as an exemplar of the opportunities and challenges of engaging service users in first level training of student nurses at all stages of the student journey, from application to qualification as a nurse. The chapter outlines the many ways in which SU involvement makes a positive and unique contribution to nursing education and research. It demonstrates how, by including service users at all stages of the student experience, tomorrow's nurses will be more rounded professionals that deliver excellent care and services, taking into consideration service users and their carers' perspectives. It concludes that for involvement to be effective, co-production between all stakeholders is needed to facilitate equal partnership and beneficial outcomes for all stakeholders.
