| Description | The word ETHICS is an acronym for Effective Technical and Human Implementation of Computer-based Systems. It is also an expression of a personal philosophy. I believe that the future users of new technical systems should be able to participate in the design process and help create systems that are humanistic and friendly as well as efficient and effective. My interest in changing systems design practice was stimulated by observing the bad human effects of many early computer systems. Work was frequently routinized and controls tightened as a result of the new technology. Systems analysts, as designers were called then, appeared to have little understanding of the human consequences of their work. The difficulties of technical design appeared to displace any concern for human feelings. Book Name: Participatory Design |
