| Description | Web applications have become a major source of interaction in the 21st century. Most of the applications now being used have been developed since 2012. More information is now exchanged through web applications than ever before. After the dot com revolution (1995–2001), the web became the primary means of sharing and accessing information. Since the introduction of Web 2.0 in late 2004, information is accessed and simultaneously updated through the Internet. More organizations are moving their businesses online by building stand-alone and dynamic web applications to better connect with their clients. With the smartphone revolution, mobile 357applications are being developed at a furious pace. Every company is developing mobile apps to reach their customers and provide seamless service. Banking and financial transactions used to be done only at physical locations of the companies. But now, with every service available on your smartphone, consumers can order checks in just a few clicks and get them delivered to their door. They can also deposit checks from their phones using an app rather than going to the physical location of the bank. E-commerce is one of the fastest growing markets. Every day millions of transactions are done on e-commerce and m-commerce (mobile) applications. Applications now store user information such as personal data, credit card information, and medical data for faster communication and to improve service to users. But such storage of user data carries a great risk in terms of information protection and privacy of the individual user. Threats are common in the computing world. Such threats include stealing of and preventing access to the information. Book Name: Computer and Cyber Security |
