Description	In this chapter, several special Portland cements and other types of hydraulic binders are presented. These hydraulic binders have a chemistry that is totally different from that of Portland cement and they are presently used for very specific applications. This is why they are presented in a separate chapter in order to emphasize their specificity and what makes them different from usual Portland cement or blended cements. As they are produced in much smaller quantities than Portland cement, their production and marketing costs are much higher than those of Portland cement. Moreover, they usually have to be transported over long distances so that their market price can be three to five times higher than that of regular Portland cement, and, even eight to ten times more expensive in the case of some aluminous cement.
