Description	Lived experiences form each person's individual story. Sporting autoethnographies draw on personal experiences to extend sociological understanding of sporting cultures. Autoethnography will be used to connect the author's lived experiences and perspectives as an athlete, researcher and coach to the social world of sports coaching. The importance of the coach–athlete relationship and need to address the gap between research and practice will be discussed. Two case studies will be used to present three sport-specific challenges that coaches face in empowering athletes to think for themselves. Given the widespread nature of challenges in sport coaching, the hope is that this chapter sparks a motivation to pause, think, consider, plan, change, overcome, and improve.
