| Description | In this chapter, we will outline a perspective on designs for learning as a social activity, beyond an understanding of learning as (only) an individual endeavour. Since some decades we can notice both globally and digitally distributed multimodal resources for communication and information storing, as well as new patterns for collaborative work to solve different kinds of problems (like crowdsourcing). This chapter gives a theoretical overview of a design-theoretic approach to learning that can be used not only to analyse and understand new learning sites and practices, but also to organise new collaborative learning environments. We will give one example of how this could be done: design patterns for sustainable change of technologies for learning in a professional group of teachers.
