| Description | First the various possible ways that the relationship between development ethics and global ethics can take are explored, for example, inclusion, non-overlap, and significant overlap. Then a version of overlap is defended, particularly if a version of global ethics that acknowledges diversity within universalism is accepted, and development ethics is seen to include the international dimension of ethical responsibility. A brief history of development ethics and global ethics is given, and then an exploration of various ethical issues in development is presented, followed by an analysis of the various senses in which we can understand global ethics, for example, as concerned with an ethic which is global in content and one that is global in the scope of its acceptance. Finally their overlap is explored in the context of universal values and global responsibility. Book Name: Routledge Handbook of Development Ethics |
