| Description | In this chapter, first we discuss the future of EHR data research trends. This includes talking about challenging research topics such as unstructured EHR data analysis and integrating other types of data (genomics data, data from wearable devices, social determinants of health data, and data from laboratory experiments and clinical trials, etc.) with EHR data. Patient privacy and data security often present major challenges to the use of EHR data for research. The development of simulation models and tools to generate synthetic EHR data is also an emerging research topic. Cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technologies that have recently played an important role in solving healthcare problems can also be used to automate the processing and analysis of big EHR data. The ultimate goal of using EHR data for research is to improve the overall health of people. We briefly outline the needs and procedures for the post-research practice in order to translate the EHR research results into clinical practice. Lastly, we conclude this chapter with a brief summary. Book Name: Statistics and Machine Learning Methods for EHR Data |
