| Description | In this chapter on art and organizing, I will focus on my aesthetic appreciation of the cycle of frescoes of Good and Bad Government painted by Ambrogio Lorenzetti in the “Sala della Pace” of the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena, Italy. This was, in fact, a happy connection between art (the cycle of frescoes) and city government (the Government of the Nine of the Republic of Siena) which expressed itself on the level of both the pictorial arts and the fascinating dream of republican citizenship, and where art reveals the philosophical foundations of organizing. Through these frescoes, Lorenzetti exhibits an art of great civic value that, magnificently representing the imaginary and ideal organizing of the republican democracy of the city state of Siena, creates a grandiose “practical” art oriented in the world of historical and political life.
