| Description | This chapter presents an interview of Fay Fransella, who is the director of the Centre for Personal Construct Psychology and emeritus reader in clinical psychology at the University of London. In 1982 she founded the first centre to focus totally on the theory and application of personal construct psychology. Her major research work has been concerned with the development of a personal construct theoretical model to account for stuttering. Her other major area of research has been in the field of weight disorders—both obesity and anorexia nervosa. An anorexic girl typically comes for treatment to satisfy someone else's wish rather than her own. Fay feels that such a situation runs counter to the basic philosophy of personal construct therory and yet realizes that the anorexic girl may well need help in spite of her feelings to the contrary. This theme is explored further in the interview. Book Name: Therapists' Dilemmas |
