| Description | The introduction of smart technologies and distributed ledgers support collaboration. The merging of the two themes of technology and collaboration is writ large in meeting the Government's “Digital Built Britain”$ ^{1}$ vision, which seeks to create a mature digital economy for the built environment, delivering high-performing assets and exceptional client value. Smart, automated contracts can be seen as the logical fulfilment of this desire to go digital. The Government Construction Strategy 2016–2020$ ^{2}$ also encouraged technological advancement in all areas. The Government sought to galvanise change in the area of digital technologies and construction by setting up the Centre for Digital Build Britain 2018. The aim is to deliver a “smart digital economy for infrastructure and construction for the future.” The Centre moves on from merely promoting collaboration by fully aligning itself with such initiatives as the internet of things, analytics and advances in manufacturing combining to bring about better planned buildings and infrastructure built more cheaply and efficiently.
