| Description | Australia's unique higher education landscape includes its international education sector as one of Australia's top three exports (Department of Education and Training, 2018). However, women in Australia are under-represented in STEM, for they only make up 17% of university enrollments in engineering (Australian Academy of Science, 2019) and 12% of the engineering workforce (Kaspura, 2019). This chapter describes the context of Australian tertiary engineering education, provides an overview of some recent initiatives focused on women in engineering, and gives examples of ways programs and initiatives can be successfully implemented to increase the participation of women in engineering.
