Description	γ-Amino-β-hydroxyphosphonates, useful intermediates for the synthesis of phosphonic acid analogues of carnitine, were prepared as their protected derivatives in an enantioselective manner from β,γ-unsaturated phosphonates through asymmetric dihydroxylation and subsequent regioselective amination via the cyclic sulfates.
