Physiotherapie und hier vor allem Manuelle Therapie, Thermo- und Mechanotherapie genießen auch in der Zahnheilkunde ein zunehmendes Ansehen. In der Zusammenarbeit mit der Zahnheilkunde - Zahnärztliche Prothetik, Kieferorthopädie, Kieferchirurgie - ist es für eine enge Kooperation unerlässlich, sich mit der Ätiologie der einzelnen Erkrankungen am Kiefergelenk und der Kaumuskulatur vertraut zu machen. Myoarthropathic disorders of the masticatory system are now usually referred to as „craniomandibulary disorders” (CMD). In recent years, many different systems have been proposed in the literature for the classification of these functional disorders. The 1990 classification of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain (AAOP) was modified in 1993 (McNeill 1990 and 1993). In 1996, the AAOP published new guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of orofacial pain and also presented a revised version of the classification system (Okeson 1996), which included complaints of the temporomandibulary joint and also of the periarticular structures. This classification should be used in the treatment of myoarthropathic disorders, as it can help to improve communication between the different specialities. In addition, a clear diagnosis based on a complicated clinical picture is the foundation for decisions about treatment and can also be of prognostic value. In the present article, the most important clinical presentations of craniomandibulary disorders are discussed, in accordance with the classification of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain (AAOP). |
