Description	Let be a complex Hilbert space and a closed subspace. It is shown that if a selfadjoint operator matrix with positive diagonals on is positive on , then there exists a operator matrix with the same diagonals such that is positive on and is the restriction of to . When is in a von Neumann algebra, we consider the problems of finding in the same algebra. This lifting theorem has applications to weighted norm inequalities for conjugation operators on analytic operator algebras.
