| Abstract | Sophie- Anne Leterrier, History in Revolution. Important changes took place at the outset of the new era in the field of history, both in terms of object and methodology, and also in the issues involved in referring to the past. While the Revolution momentarily thwarted historical studies by throwing scholarship into confusion, it also gave rise to a new interest in history closely related to political experience, and laid the foundations for the teaching of history by the next generation. The ambitions of history during the Revolution knew no bounds, its scope was thrown open, its concepts and branches multiplied, it took over new social functions. More space was given to traditions of thought and of writing, to the continuity of men and of schools. Above all, the Revolution institutionalized history by centralizing public archives, establishing a public education system and founding the Institut.Des changements importants ont eu lieu dès l'époque moderne dans le domaine de l'histoire, soit en termes d'objet, soit en termes de méthode, soit encore dans les enjeux de la référence au passé. Si la Révolution a momentanément entravé les études historiques en bouleversant l'érudition, elle a suscité aussi un intérêt nouveau pour l'histoire, étroitement articulée sur l'expérience politique, et posé les bases du magistère historique de la génération suivante. Les ambitions de l'histoire en révolution ont été grandioses : ses cadres se sont élargis, ses concepts et ses branches se sont multipliés, elle a été chargée de nouvelles fonctions sociales. Ses réalisations ont fait plus de place aux traditions de pensée et d'écriture, à la continuité des hommes et des écoles. La Révolution a surtout institué l'histoire à travers la centralisation des archives publiques, la mise en place du système d'instruction publique, la fondation de l'InstitutLeterrier Sophie-Anne.
