| Abstract | Recently, various biomimetic scaffolds using a decellularised extracellular matrix (dECM) have been applied in tissue regeneration applications because dECM consists of highly bioactive fibrous proteins and polysaccharides. Here, to enhance the biofunctionality of the dECM surface, homogeneously roughened nanoscale patterns (Ra = 524 ± 66 nm) on the surface of poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL)-based dECM were developed by selecting optimal plasma treatment conditions (power: 15 W, oxygen flow rate: 5 standard cubic cm per min, and total plasma exposure time: 4 h). To determine its efficiency as a biomedical scaffold, the plasma-treated PCL/dECM was evaluated for various cellular activities, metabolic activity and osteogenic differentiation, and compared with two controls: plasma-treated pure PCL fibres and an untreated PCL/dECM fibrous structure. Significant increases in cell viability (>1.5-fold) and calcium mineralisation (>1.8-fold) were observed for the nanoscale-roughened PCL/dECM fibrous structure compared with the untreated PCL/dECM fibrous mat. Based on the results, we propose a new surface model of a surface-modified biomedical scaffold, which can significantly promote cell activities at the interface between cells and the surface to regenerate hard tissues. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
