| Abstract | The possibility of improving the performance of solvent resistant nanofiltration (SRNF) membranes by the strategy of localized heating has been demonstrated in earlier work. The localized heating was realized by the plasmonic heating effect of gold nanoparticles (NPs) through incorporation of these “nano-heaters” into the membrane matrix. Heat is released from gold NPs to the membrane matrix under argon laser irradiation. Improved fluxes by laser irradiation without significantly lowering selectivities were achieved. This present study aims at using cheaper silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with a cheaper and energetically more efficient LED light as an alternative for gold NPs with a laser device. Silver NPs were incorporated into different polymeric membranes, as confirmed by TEM images and UV-Vis spectra. The plasmonic heating effect on the performance of AgNP containing membranes was investigated by a dead-end filtration cell coupled to a 400 nm LED light irradiation. The influences of feed, polymer type, and AgNP preparation routes on the silver NP containing membrane performances under LED light irradiation were studied. The results indicate that AgNPs and LED light can be good alternatives for gold NPs and a laser device, rendering the whole approach more energy efficient, cheaper and less complicated. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
