| Abstract | [Purpose] This study investigated physical health status and quality of life among olderSaudi adults. [Subjects and Methods] Participants included older adults (N = 55) aged60–90 years (mean = 67.9± 7.71) from a major hospital in Jeddah. Subjects completedsurveys and evaluations including assessments of personal and socio-demographiccharacteristics, caregiver presence, personal habits, perceived health, primary physicaland psychological complaints, physician-diagnosed chronic diseases, and functionalcapacity (i.e., activities of daily living). [Results] Results showed a significantpositive correlation between age and ADL; age and memory problems, anxiety, andloneliness; and sleep disturbance and falls. Main factors contributing to quality of lifedecline were chronic disease, falls, sedentary lifestyle, sleep disturbances, andfinancial concerns. Participants with diabetes mellitus (58.18%) and hypertension (29.0%)had a very high fall rate. Participants engaged in minimal physical activity (63%), oftendue to bone and joint pain (90.0%), and led sedentary lives (69%). Single sensoryimpairments were significantly and independently linked to high depression risk anddecreased self-sufficiency. [Conclusion] Healthy lifestyle and behavioralchanges should be promoted through community-based health education programs for olderSaudi adults. Chronic disease screening programs for the elderly population (especiallydiabetes and hypertension) are recommended. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
