| Abstract | Objective: to examine the trend in parental psychological control, bullying behavior, and emotional flexibility among middle school students; investigate the relationships among these variables, and the presence of cross-lagged effects. Methods: cluster sampling was employed among all students in three public schools in Beijing. This one-year longitudinal study utilized the Verbal and Physical Bullying Scale, Delaware School Climate Survey-Student Cyberbullying, Parental Psychological Control Questionnaire, and Adolescent Emotional Resilience Questionnaire. In Wave 1, 550 valid questionnaires were collected, and in Wave 2, 545 valid questionnaires were obtained. Results: (1) significant associations were found between bullying behavior, parental psychological control, and emotional flexibility across both measurement waves. (2) After controlling for gender, age, and socioeconomic status, reciprocal predictive effects were observed between bullying behavior and parental psychological control. Furthermore, emotional resilience was found to significantly and negatively predict bullying behavior one year later. Conclusion: Emotional resilience may serve as a protective factor against adolescent bullying behaviors resulting from parental psychological control and may exhibit relative stability over time. Therefore, parents should focus on fostering emotional resilience in adolescents and adopt positive behavioral control strategies rather than psychological control to prevent adolescent bullying behavior.
