| Abstract | The results of a programme of high dispersion coudé observations of four flare stars are reported. None of the stars exhibited significant radial velocity variations; it is argued that the existence of a close, short-period companion is not a necessary condition for flare activity. EV Lac and EQ Peg are found to show marked emission-line variability while photometrically quiescent, similar to the variations recently reported in five other flare stars (Bopp 1974). The variability can be explained by a non-uniform, patchy distribution of emitting regions on a rotating star. |
