| Abstract | This study investigated the intrasentential patterns of codeswitching in Turkish-English bilingual discourse in L2 English classroom interactions. The patterns were structurally analyzed in terms of their consistency with two grammatical constraints, namely the Free Morpheme and the Equivalence Constraint. The findings suggested that the data were incompatible with the Free Morpheme Constraint as there were many instances of bound morphemes from Turkish attached to the nouns in English. Yet, the data were partially consistent with the Equivalence Constraint as shown by some switches presenting phrasal congruence and violations confirmed by switches at points where the languages showed no linear equivalence. |
