Abstract	L’indicateur de base du chômage utilisé ici est le taux de chômage – proportion de personnes sans emploi dans la population active en âge de travailler (15-64 ans). Les données présentées proviennent des enquêtes de population active des pays membres. Selon la définition standard du BIT qui est utilisée dans ces enquêtes, les chômeurs sont les personnes qui n’ont pas travaillé au moins une heure, en tant que salarié ou travailleur indépendant, au cours de la semaine de référence, qui sont immédiatement disponibles et qui ont pris des dispositions spécifiques pour rechercher un emploi durant les quatre semaines précédant l’enquête. Ainsi, les personnes qui ne sont pas en mesure de travailler en raison d’une déficience physique, qui ne cherchent pas activement un emploi parce qu’elles ont peu d’espoir d’en trouver un ou qu’elles poursuivent des études à plein-temps ne sont pas considérées comme chômeurs. Plusieurs ventilations sont présentées ci-après : par âge (15-24 ans, 25-54 ans et 55-64 ans), sexe et niveau d’instruction, et par durée de la période de chômage.
