Abstract	En 2009-10, pour la première fois en sept ans, l’immigration à caractère permanent en Australie a reculé de 7 %. Néanmoins, avec environ 207 000 immigrés permanents (à l’exclusion des citoyens australiens de retour au pays), il s’agit de la seconde plus importante vague d’immigration jamais enregistrée en Australie, près de deux fois supérieure à celle de la décennie précédente. Parmi ces immigrés permanents, 82 % ont été admis dans le cadre du programme d’immigration – dont les deux tiers environ au titre du volet sur les compétences (skill stream) (y compris les membres de la fami l le accompagnant le travailleur) et un tiers pour raisons familiales (family stream) – et 7 % pour des motifs humanitaires. Dans le volet sur les compétences, la proportion des migrants parrainés par un employeur a continué de progresser, passant de 33 % en 2008-09 à 39 % en 2009-10. Par ailleurs, 24 300 Néo-zélandais sont arrivés en Australie en vertu de l’Accord transtasmanien de 1973 relatif aux voyages. Pour 2010-11, le niveau global des programmes d’immigration à caractère permanent et humanitaire équivaut à celui de 2009-10, avec toutefois 5 800 places supplémentaires sur le volet des compétences, contrebalancées par des réductions sur le volet familial.
