NDLI: Mortalité prématurée

Abstract	La mortalité prématurée, exprimée en années potentielles de vie perdues (APVP) avant 70 ans, rend compte des décès survenant au sein des groupes d’âge relativement jeunes. La mortalité infantile et les décès par maladies et accidents parmi les enfants et les jeunes adultes influent fortement sur les valeurs de cet indicateur : un décès à l’âge de 5 ans représente 65 APVP, tandis qu’un décès à 60 ans en représente seulement 10. Une baisse du nombre d’APVP peut être liée aux progrès des technologies médicales, qui influent par exemple sur la mortalité infantile et les décès d’origine cardiaque, ou à des mesures de prévention et de lutte qui réduisent les décès prématurés ou évitables consécutifs à des accidents ou à des maladies transmissibles. D’autres variables, comme le PIB par habitant, la situation professionnelle, le nombre de médecins et la consommation d’alcool et de tabac, ont été associées au recul de la mortalité prématurée (Or, 2000 ; Joumard et al., 2008).
