Abstract	Der Preis von Rohöl, aus dem Mineralölerzeugnisse wie Benzin hergestellt werden, wird über die üblichen Angebots- und Nachfrageschwankungen hinaus durch eine Reihe anderer Faktoren bestimmt, die insbesondere mit geopolitischen Fragen zusammenhängen. Einige der kostengünstigsten Vorkommen befinden sich in politisch sensiblen Weltregionen. Darüber hinaus kann der technische Fortschritt die Rohölpreise erheblich beeinflussen, z.B. indem er dafür sorgt, dass neue Ölfelder mit Gewinn ausgebaut oder Ersatzenergiequellen wie Biokraftstoffe erschlossen werden können. Der Verkehrssektor, der erheblichen Einfluss auf die Weltölnachfrage hat, ist jedoch nach wie vor stark von Mineralölerzeugnissen abhängig. Die Ölnachfrage und folglich die Ölpreise hängen daher eng mit den Konjunkturzyklen zusammen.
