Abstract	Die Finanzkrise der Jahre 2007 und 2008 erfasste zeitgleich eine sehr große Zahl von Ländern und mündete in eine weltweite Wirtschaftskrise, wie wir sie seit der „Großen Depression", der Weltwirtschaftskrise der 1930er Jahre, nicht mehr erlebt hatten. Auslöser waren an riskante Hypothekendarlehen geknüpfte Finanzprodukte, deren Verbreitung extrem stark zugenommen hatte. Die Krise ließ schwere Zweifel an der Globalisierung der Finanzwirtschaft aufkommen, die die Risiken im Bank- und Finanzmarktgeschäft in gewisser Weise verstärkt hatte und zudem mit der Entstehung erheblicher finanzieller Ungleichgewichte zwischen den großen Wirtschaftsmächten einhergegangen war. Die Frage der Regulierung der internationalen Finanztransaktionen ist von entscheidender Bedeutung, um die Risiken der Globalisierung in den Griff zu bekommen.
