Abstract	A ajuda ao desenvolvimento tem sido crescentemente aplicada através de intervenções estratégicas, destinadas a tornar essa ajuda mais eficaz. Para assegurar que as considerações ambientais são tidas em conta neste novo contexto de ajuda, as ferramentas já estabelecidas para a avaliação ambiental ao nível dos projetos terão que ser complementadas por abordagens adaptadas a políticas, planos e programas. A Avaliação Ambiental Estratégica cumpre esta necessidade.
