| Abstract | This research describes the process of extracting features from human EEG signals using Fast Fourier Transform. A normal EEG signal consists of four frequency bands such as delta, alpha, beta and theta. Every frequency bands has different frequency range delta (0.3-3Hz), theta (3-8Hz), alpha (8-12Hz) and beta (12-30Hz) can be used for analyzing brain activities. We studies on the characteristics of EEG which is processed using band pass filters (0.3-30Hz). The artifact removal algorithm, a notch filter and band pass filters are used for pre-processing signal. A program is designed in MATLAB to eliminate data above lOO^V. Hence, all artifacts in the EEG signal were removed automatically. Our work mainly focuses on the effect of binaural beats of lOHz and 4Hz to normal and stressed subject. Results are obtained from an experiment performed on stressed and normal subject. There are various methods in relieving anxiety and sfress such as meditation. However, to some people, this act is hard to perform. Therefore, they switch to another therapy which is easier and simpler but deliver similar results as given by meditation i.e. brainwave enfrainment. Binaural beat is one type of such brainwave enfrainment technique, in which two signals with different frequencies are given to each ear simultaneously. The EEG signals are recorded in two stages, specifically when the subjects were doing nothing (before binaural beats applied) and second when binaural beats were applied to subject. Power specfral density (PSD) curves are also plotted and analyzed before and after applying binaural beats of lOHz and 4Hz. Alpha brainwave increased after listening to binaural beat of lOHz and delta brainwave increased after listening to binaural beat of 4Hz hence binaural beats can be used as a substitute for meditation to reduce the stress level and can also be used as a tablet to induce sleep in an insomnia patient. In the end of our research, the result shows that normal subject experience higher percentage increment in their brainwave as compared to stressed subject. |
