EFFECT OF COBALT, MOLYBDENUM AND BIO-FERTILIZERS ON ROOT NODULATION AND YIELD OF CHICKPEA (Cicer arietinum L.)

| Abstract | A field experiment entitled“Effect of cobalt, molybdenum and bio-fertilizers on root nodulation and yield of chickpea†was conducted during rabiseason of 2016-17 on clayey soil at Instructional farm, College of Agriculture, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh.The experiment conducted with nine treatments in randomised block design with three replications. The results of the experiments revealed that significantly higher values of growth parameters viz., plant height &number of branches per plant and yield attributes viz., dry matter production, root nodules per plant, number and dry weight of effective nodules per plant, number and weight of pods per plant along with higher seed yield and stover yield were recorded under75% RDF + Rhizobium + PSB + molybdenum (2 g/kg seed) treatment. Considerable improvement in N, P and Mo content as well as their uptake was also recorded under 75% RDF + Rhizobium + PSB + molybdenum (2 g/kg seed) treatment while significant higher cobalt content and uptake were recorded under 75% RDF + Rhizobium + PSB + cobalt (2 g/kg seed) treatment.With regard to economics, the highest net return was also obtained by application of75% RDF + Rhizobium + PSB + molybdenum (2 g/kg seed) but the highest B: C ratio was obtained by application of75% RDF + Rhizobium + PSB. In general, better root nodulation, crop yield and highest net returns could be obtained from chickpea by seed inoculation treatment with 75% RDF + Rhizobium + PSB + molybdenum (2 g/kg seed). |
