| Abstract | e,Tirupati tostudythe effect of moisturestress atdifferent stages of cropgrowthinclusterbean during thesummerseason of 1998.Thetrialwas carried out. in a factorial RBD with four stress treatments Viz., stress at vegetativestage(T3),stressatfloweringstage(T3),stressatpoddevelopment stage(land stressfreecontrol (T1)andfourcultivarsviz., PusaNaubahar (VI), Pusa Sadabahar(V2), Super-501 (V3) and Navchetana (V4) with three replications. Vegetative growth parameters like plant height, number ofprimary branchesperplant andtotaldrymatterperplant weresignificantlyreduced duetomoisturestressatvegetativestagefollowed byfloweringstage.when comparedwithcontrol.AmongthecultivarsPusaNaubaharrecordedhighest plantheight(185.74cm)atharvest,whileSuper501.recordedlowestvalues fortheseparameters.PusaSadabaharrecordedhighestnumberofprimary branchesperplant(1156)andtotaldrymatterperplant(126.20g). Moisturestressatfloweringstageresultedinsigniï¬ cantlyhighestflower drop(55.45%)andlowestpodset(41.65%)comparedwithcontrolinallthe cultivars.Bestamongcultivars,Super501seemstobelessaffected.Moisture stressatvegetativestageadvancedthedaysto50percent flowering(30.66 days)asagainstcontrol(34.11days).Regardingyieldattributes,stressatpod deVelopmentstagefollowedbyfloweringstagewasmoredetrimental,reducing podspercluster(61.8)andseedsperpod(6.25).Totalpodyieldswerelowest (144.25q.ha'1)intheplantsreceivingstressatfloweringstagefollowedbypod developmentstage(146.34q.ha‘1).However,stressatvegetativestage(150.32 qha'lv)hadverylittleeffectontotalpodyieldcomparedwithcontrol(154.71 q.ha'1). Amongthe cultivars Super 501 (156.54 q.ha'1) andPusaNaubahar (153.10q.ha'1)showedsuperiorvaluesforpodyieldwhileNavchetana(136.53 q.ha'1)wasinferiorandPusaSadabahar(149.45q.ha‘1)wasintermediate. Regardingbiochemicalparametersinpodsstress atpoddevelopment stage signiï¬ cantlyreduced the pod proteincontent(361%),whereas crude ï¬ brecontent(2.73%)wasincreasedinallthecultivars.Amongthecultivars Super501recordedhigherpodprotein(3.93%)andlowercrudefibrecontent (2.24%)understress.
