| Description | Earthquake is a natural disaster which causes lateral force in the buildings and results in a huge loss of life & property. A number of structural systems have been developed over the years to resist the lateral load caused by earthquake. Frame-Shear wall buildings are the most common among them. It has been observed during the past Earthquakes that the Frame-Shear wall buildings behave much satisfactorily in comparison to frame buildings. In the Performance Based Design, the desired level of seismic performance for a structure for specified level of earthquake ground motion is specified. Pushover Analysis a useful technique, which helps to estimate the inelastic deformations indicating the level of damage in the structure. In this dissertation an analytical study has been performed to estimate the performance of Frame-Shear wall buildings using Non-Linear Static Push-over analysis and Performance Based Design. In the present study Equivalent wide Column Modelling of Shear wall has been used. Two buildings of ten storey & twenty storey with identical plan & with varying shear wall areas, have been considered. These buildings have been analysed & designed as per IS: 456, IS: 1893 & IS: 13920. Non-Linear behaviour & Performance of these buildings for Maximum Considered Earthquake have been studied using SAP 2000 Non-linear software. Beam & column sections have been designed for Immediate Occupancy & Collapse Prevention Performance levels. The bending moment & Shear force diagrams for Shear wall along the height of the wall for different stages of loading have also been obtained to study the Frame-shear wall interaction behaviour. Effect of shear wall area on various parameters of the buildings i.e. Dynamic Characteristics of the buildings, Building Performance, Base Shear, Drift Ratio and Ductility Demand has been studied. Effect of Shear wall area as % of floor area has also been studied on the total volume of concrete. Optimum area of Shear wall in terms of floor area has been estimated from the minimum volume of material required. |
