| Description | Many engineering operations including colloidal suspensions, aerosols emulsion polymerization, grinding, crystallization, liquid-liquid extraction operation depend on effective mass transport across liquid-liquid interfaces. The transport is strongly affected by the amount of interfacial area present in the vessel. The interfacial area directly is related to the drop size distribution produced in the liquid-liquid dispersions. In this dissertation a simulation program based on Monte Carlo simulation method has been developed to predict steady state drop size distribution in the two-phase liquid-liquid continuous flow stirred tank. The simulation result compares well with the available experimental and numerical simulation result. And is proved to be a viable technique to predict steady state drop size distribution for different liquid-liquid system. The effect of different physical properties like interfacial tension and operating parameters like impeller speed and volume fraction of dispersed phase on drop size distribution is also studied in present work. The main advantage of this simulation program is the simplicity of algorithm and it saves significant amount of simulation time. |
