| Abstract | A finite gaussian beam, upon reflection/refraction does not exactly follow the laws of re ection/refraction. Centroid of the beam gets shifted spatially or angularly or both in both the plane of incidence(GH shift) and perpendicular to it(IF shift). But this deviations are only of the order of the wave-length of light. Hence it is very diffcult to detect these sub wave-length shifts. We used an interference based technique, originally discovered in the context of quantum mechanics, called weak measurement to amplify this shifts greatly, so that these sub-wavelength shifts can now be detected as large shits in a CCD camera which works in the range of tens of micrometers. Using weak measurement several beam shifts are investigated in this thesis. These include simultaneous GH and IF effect amplification for gaussian beam. Also vortex induced beam shifts and beam shifts HG beam were successfully observed. Finally a weak measurement of Geometrical Spin Hall effect was accomplished. |
