| Abstract | Nowadays, surveillance cameras are widely installed in public places for security and law enforcement, but the video quality may be low because of the limited transmission bandwidth and storage capacity. In this study, the authors proposed a gait recognition method for extremely low-quality videos, which have a frame-rate at one frame per second (1 fps) and resolution of 32 × 22 pixels. Different from popular temporal reconstruction-based methods, the proposed method uses the average gait image (AGI) over the whole sequence as the appearance-based feature description. Based on the AGI description, the authors employed a large number of weak classifiers to reduce the generalisation errors. The performance can be further improved by incorporating the model-based information into the classifier ensemble. The authors found that the performance improvement is directly proportional to the average disagreement level of weak classifiers (i.e. diversity), which can be increased by using the model-based information. The authors evaluated the proposed method on both indoor and outdoor databases (i.e. the low-quality versions of OU-ISIR-D and USF databases), and the results suggest that our method is more general and effective than other state-of-the-art algorithms. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
