Abstract	Computer simulation was used to evaluate the impact of human occupants on average electric field levels and antenna return loss within a car. The antennas were placed within the cabin at six different locations (three locations under the roof, as well as dashboard, storage compartment and parcel-shelf locations). Results are presented for a car with four homogenous human simulants seated within the car at three communication frequencies (900 MHz, 1.8 GHz and 2.4 GHz). The reductions in internal vehicle field levels due to the presence of human occupants are mostly higher with the source antenna on the parcel shelf and lower with the source antenna placed under the roof. The impact of the human occupants on the antenna return loss is more significant for the roof-mounted examples.
