| Abstract | This paper describes efficient modeling and simulation method which can be employed for fast and real time simulations of hybrid intelligent systems from railway vehicles using a novel 2D wheel-rail contact model. It presents the development of a novel 2D wheel-railcontact model where the variables related to the geometry part are determined by solving a reduced number of mathematical equations and the wheel-rail normal contact forces are calculated without approximating the contact angle. The results are stored in a lookup table accessed during the dynamic analysis of wheel-sets, bogies, or trains so the computational time is reduced. The process of solving the ordinary differential equations representing the bogie dynamic behaviour becomes faster by using the lookup table. The proposed 2D wheel-rail contact model could be used for fast and real-time simulations of complex and nonlinear wheel-rail contact mechanics and advanced condition monitoring systems for railway vehicles. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
