Abstract	The use of a wide area network (WAN) and the Internet as a means of communication between five temporary satellite campuses in 1990 makes Temasek Polytechnic one of the earlier adopters of WAN technology and the Internet. For its permanent campus, Temasek Polytechnic decided to use ATM as the campus network backbone. Since then, Temasek Polytechnic has expanded in both WAN connectivity and local area network (LAN) capacity. The network was designed, and has been constantly upgraded accordingly, to cater for capacity, redundancy and future migration. This paper presents a case study of the Polytechnic's campus network design and implementation in both LAN and WAN connectivity. Furthermore, the server farm implementation is discussed to address network security concerns.
