Abstract	This paper introduces a design proposal of laminated veneer lumber (LVL) grading system according to mechanical properties. The system is used to evaluate the mechanics intension of LVL and monitor the quality of product in order to reduce wood waste and better utilize wood resources. The LVL grading system is composed of ultrasonic transit-time method and shock stress wave method, both of which are non destructive. The system utilized data fusion and field bus, which leads to stronger anti-interference capability and higher fault tolerance. The test results show that characteristics of LVL grading are non-destructive, low cost, great stability, reliability, which can be used for LVL online and real-time detection, and it has a better application prospect.
