NDLI: Effects of Ventilation and Fire Power on Bulkhead Damage by Temperature Simulation Model and Experiment Analysis

Abstract	Since the thermal conductivity of steel is very high, the high temperature distribution in many scenarios may cause the structure easy to be damaged in terms of performance of ship cabin. Steel is the main constituent material structure of the ship while the long time heating during the fires will result in declining the structure performance of the cabin. Study how to remain or reduce averaged bulkhead temperature becomes an important task in either structure performance design or fireproof optimization. This paper uses FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) which has a large eddy simulation turbulence model to do the simulation on full-scale fire tests of ship under different ventilation conditions. The results show that the HRR (Heat Release Rate) is not proportional to the ventilation area. The error between FDS simulation and experiment are close within 25%.
