NDLI: Restructuring the Electricity Industry in Small Developing Countries

Abstract	Restructuring the electricity industries worldwide is a relatively new phenomenon, with a number of experiences during the last couple of decades. Most of the experiences especially the older ones have been in developed countries mainly with relatively big markets. Relatively less importance has been given to those small developing countries with electrification rates below say 40%. Small developing countries (or small emerging economies) may have different objectives when deciding how to restructure their electricity supply industry, if they are about to do it at all. This paper shows some of the most important options that may be available for small economies interested in following the path of restructuring their electricity industry. A case study of an African country is included
