NDLI: Location/mobility-dependent bandwidth adaptation in QoS-sensitive cellular networks

Abstract	Wireless/mobile networks are highly dynamic due to (1) time-varying and location-dependent channel conditions and (2) user mobility. These characteristics cause the wireless link bandwidth, one of the scarcest and most precious resources, to fluctuate severely. Presented is a method to manage the wireless link bandwidth allocated to each connection adaptively in this highly dynamic environment so as to maximize the service provider's total reward/revenue. Bandwidth adaptation can be triggered by either arrival/departure of a connection (due to setup, hand-off, or termination) or change of the location-dependent channel condition. Using simulations, we demonstrate how the proposed scheme works, and its superiority to a nonadaptive scheme in terms of link utilization and aggregate reward/revenue.
