| Abstract | Uni-directional emission emerges perpendicularly to the notch of a 2-d spiral-shaped mu-disk and not with 30deg tilted, as is the case for poorer quality spiral-shaped mu-disks. While wanting to preserve the uni-directionality of the spiral, we also wanted to extract as much of the stored energy from the mu-disks at the expense of very high Q-value whispering gallery modes (WGMs). In this paper we present experimental results of directly coupling the flat edge of a spiral mu-cavity with the flat edge at one corner of a semicircle mu-cavity. The uni-directional emission appears normal to the flat edge of the opposite corner of a semicircle. The roles of the spiral as an oscillator and the semicircle as an amplifier are investigated with separate currents pumping the spiral and the semicircle. The competition between lasing modes (with narrow spectral peaks) and broadband amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) in the spiral for the inverted population in the semicircle limits the amplification process. The feedbacks provided by the Fresnel reflection on one side and the reflection from the channel on the coupled side cause the semicircle mu-disk to self oscillate above some current value. National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
