| Abstract | We formulate a model for investigating the transmission of date coded in the differential-phase-shift-keying (DPSK) format by soliton streams in the model of the dispersion-managed (DM) fiber link with in-line filters. First, we consider the transmission of the simplest two- and three-soliton strings, and then long multi-soliton ones. Summarizing results of systematic simulations, we identify a range 1.55 /spl les/ S /spl les/ 1.95, which provides for the optimal transmission regime (which is defined as that in which the bit-error-rate, BER, is kept below an acceptable limit, for a fixed large transmission distance). We also identify an interval of values of the filters' bandwidth to guarantee an optimal operation regime. The simulations of the model with and without the amplified-spontaneous-emission (ASE) noise demonstrate that the limit on the transmission distance, necessary to keep BER below the acceptable level, is determined solely by the inter-soliton interactions, rather than by the ASE noise. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
