| Abstract | Due to the recent expansion of renewable energy applications, wind energy conversion is receiving much interest all over the world. This is in no small part due to the rapid advances in the size of wind generators as well as the development of power electronics and their applicability in wind energy extraction, however, it has a great effect on the stability on power system. As wind turbine output is proportional to the cube of wind speed, the wind turbine generator output fluctuates due to wind speed variation. Thus this paper presents a new method to control the voltage stability by using reactive power compensation. It is observed that wind farm output voltage as well as grid voltage fluctuations can be controlled easily by applying this simple technique. Besides this, output voltage fluctuations can be smoothed by effectively controlling the reference voltage of the exciter of synchronous generator (SG). IEEE AC1A exciter is used in this study. Real wind speed data have been considered to obtained realistic responses. PSCAD/EMTDC software is used for simulation analyses. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
