| Abstract | Due to space limitation, providing space diversity at mobile stations such as handsets or personal digital assistants (PDA) is problematic in mobile ad hoc networks (MANET). Recent studies, however, have shown that extraordinary diversity advantages can be obtained from a relay node in the proximity, which forwards the information from the source to the intended destination node via a diversity path. The diversity in reception can be easily translated into the benefits of increased achievable information rates or reduced outage probability. While previous works had demonstrated that remarkable gains can be achieved from simple fixed-relaying strategies when compared to without relaying, this paper takes an information-theoretic perspective to look into the optimal decode-and-forward (DF) single-relay scheme for 1) maximizing the mutual information between the source and the destination node given the instantaneous channel state information at all the participating nodes (CSIN), and 2) minimizing the outage rate probability given only the statistical channel information at the nodes (SCIN). In particular, we aim to find the optimal time-division between the direct transmission phase and the relaying phase, and the optimal power allocation for the two phases, for a three-node relay channel |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
