Abstract	Wavefield modeling is a formalism for array processing based on expressing the output of a sensors' array as a product of a wavefield-independent sampling matrix and an array-independent coefficient vector. This approach turns out to be very useful in practical algorithms for array processing and direction finding, such as the MUSIC and Root-MUSIC algorithms; specifically, it yields an extension of the MUSIC and Root-MUSIC algorithms to general 2D arrays. A numerical study of those two direction finding methods in the case of closely-spaced radiating sources, shows that the resolution capability of Root-MUSIC is less sensitive than MUSIC to calibration errors in the sensors gains.
