Abstract	Asymmetric networking over DoD's Global Broadcast Service (GBS) provides a one-way communications path to the warfighter as part of an interactive communications system. GBS provides the capability to deliver information products of varying size, timeliness requirements, and security levels. The products share the satellite resources based on CINC/JTF commanders priorities, operational locations, and platform capabilities of the deployed users, and availability of satellite resources. GBS asymmetric networking is designed to allow end-users to retrieve Internet-based services over the high bandwidth GBS link while using a lower-bandwidth DISN path to transmit information. When the GBS's satellite beam moves away from an end-user, the asymmetric networking implementation will route the end-users Internet-based service via an alternative path. This document defines a high throughput, real-time solution for Internet access across the DISN/GBS interface. A cost-effective, operationally sound, incremental approach for rapid prototyping and integrating these technologies will be outlined as well as each of the implementation approaches prototyped to date, the designs selected for systematic testing, the plan for testing selected designs, and the results of the testing. The initial architecture is based on off-the-shelf Internet Protocol (IP) routers. An approach for the GBS system architecture that supports these capabilities along with the ability to integrate emerging commercial technology is described.
